The Man in Space

Caitlyn Chalmers

The man in space
With a heavy burden
Floating in space
Wandering aimlessly
Passing the darkness
He’s accepted his fate
That he’s destined to be stuck in space
He’s lost all hope
He’s looked left and right
Up and down
But there’s no one
Now he’s just a lifeless being
Empty in his head and heart
Hollow in his soul and bones
As if he was meant for this
He flies among the stars
As his dreams become nothing
And watches as Earth becomes smaller and smaller
Earth is now far away from his reach
His home is now gone
He’s passed constellations, black holes, and stars
How long does his suffering have to last?
Until he’s lost all oxygen
And has withered away from reality
Won’t anyone come to save him?
